The City of Smyrna Police Department is a full-service municipal department, comprised of 93 sworn officers, 21 jail personnel, 22 full and part-time communications officers and 13 administrative support personnel.
The primary purpose of the Smyrna Police Department is to maintain social order within prescribed ethical and constitutional limits, while providing professional law enforcement services. To attain this, the department enforces the law in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing both the statutory and judicial limitations of police authority and the constitutional rights of all persons. Recognizing that no law enforcement agency can operate at its maximum potential without supportive input from the citizens it serves, the Smyrna Police Department actively solicits and encourages the cooperation of all citizens in decreasing opportunities for crime and to facilitate the maximum use of resources.

Administration Division The Administration Division is comprised of Records and Identification Section, Budget Department and the Permits Department. Police reports may be obtained at the Records and Identification Section Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Police reports are available three business working days from the filing date. (Police reports may be obtained by mail by sending $5.00 in advance to the records section. Checks should be made payable to the City of Smyrna.) Police reports may also be obtained via fax charged to a major credit card for a fee of $5.00. The Permits Section is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Communications Division The Communications Center is a state-of-the-art, enhanced 911 operation. The Center dispatches all fire and police calls for the City of Smyrna. All communications operators are certified as emergency medical dispatchers and P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards and Training) communications officers. The Center handles over 52,000 calls for service each year and more than 190,000 telephone calls are placed to the Center each year.
The Communications Center offers the "R.U.O.K" program to its homebound citizens. Each individual on the program receives an automated phone call each day checking on the welfare of the individual. If there is no response to the call, the appropriate emergency units are dispatched to the address. To qualify for the "R.U.O.K" program the individual must be homebound for medical reasons. back to top
Criminal Investigation Division The Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for follow up investigations on reported crimes and initiating investigations on criminal activity. The division has officers assigned to the Marietta, Cobb, Smyrna (MCS) Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force. The divisions Crime Scene Unit is responsible for evidence collection, processing and storage.
Jail Division The Smyrna City Jail is a full-service, technologically advanced facility processing 225 - 300 persons per month. The Jail Division is responsible for the processing of, care of and housing of persons arrested and/or sentenced by the court system. Special Operations Division The Special Operations Division is comprised of the Traffic Unit (S.T.E.P.), the Motorcycle Unit, the Street Crimes Unit, the Community Outreach and Emergency Services Unit (E.S.U.). The Traffic Unit is responsible for addressing traffic concerns reported by the community. They are responsible for investigating serious and fatal traffic crashes. The Street Crimes Unit is comprised of officers working in plain clothes and concentrating on specific crime problem areas. To report on-going criminal activity to the street crimes unit, call 678-631-5093.
The Special Operations Unit offers several community outreach programs. These include but are not limited to, Traffic Safety issues, Drug and Alcohol awareness programs, and the Child Safety Seat Education program. For information, call 770-319-2500.

Uniform Division The Uniform Division is the largest division in the Police Department and is equipped with the latest law enforcement technology including, mobile data terminals and in-car video cameras in all patrol units. The Uniform Division is responsible for protecting and serving all persons residing in or passing through the City of Smyrna. The division responds to all calls for service and enforces all criminal and traffic laws. The Uniform Division is committed to the philosophy of community policing to enhance its partnership with the citizens of Smyrna.

The Probation Division ensures that offenders on probation comply with their sentences. In addition to collection of fines, restitution and court fees, the Probation Division oversee completion of community service and drug and alcohol treatment programs by offenders.
